Yoga Classes at Cleveland's Yoga 101

Primary Series

The Primary Series is called Yoga Chikitsa or yoga therapy for the body, mind, and spirit. It is designed to realign the spine and build strength, flexibility, and stamina. The method of practice taught in Ashtanga yoga involves linking the breath and movement with a progressively challenging series of postures. This produces an intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies the muscles and organs. It is a vigorous moving meditation that helps to develop a strong body and calm mind. Student should feel comfortable with Half Primary or Modified Primary before taking this class.

Modified Primary Series

The MPS builds strength, endurance and flexibility as students move through a condensed version of the Primary Series (see above). This class prepares students for the entire Primary Series at a slower, more manageable pace and offers modifications for more challenging poses. Some yoga experience is advised before taking this class.

Mysore

Mysore style, the traditional method of learning Ashtanga yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India, is assisted self-practice. While students do their own practice at their own pace, the instructor circulates around the room and gives each student individual instructions and hands-on adjustments. In the class, you can progress your practice or slow it down to work more therapeutically. Whatever your goal, join Mysore to build an independent practice supported by an attentive teacher and the energy of other students.
